Mike started with us in 2015 and has served in various positions including nursery manager, production manager and his current role as nursery generalist. Mike is our go-to guy for making sure our quality plants are shipped at their finest.
“Mike is great to work with, he is a team player and always up for a new challenge. He has a vast amount of hands-on nursery experience which enables him to perform many different jobs on the nursery. From procurement to constructing more finished ground at the nursery, Mike is a go-to for key nursery tasks and he helps keep our operation running smoothly,” President Lyndsi Oestmann says.

His Roots
Originally from Muskogee, Oklahoma, he majored in industrial operations management at Northeastern State University. Mike worked his way through college at the surrounding nurseries including Greenleaf, Tri B, Park Hill Plants and Trees and American Nursery Products. Mike worked for nine years with Park Hill Plants and Trees as their construction supervisor and eventually their production manager.
Mike planted roots in Ottawa in 2019 with a purchase of a home. “We have landscaped every feasible area that can be planted and now we are making beds in the middle of the yard. So, if you come by my house and see my girlfriend working outside, don’t encourage her,” he says.
When he isn’t working in the backyard, Mike enjoys golfing and watching documentaries.

A Day at the Nursery
A day at the nursery with Mike will challenge your time management skills. Mike works to balance numerous aspects of sending plants out to customers. He works to ensure plant inventory is correct, plants are selected from the proper location and make sure all plant quality standards are met.
“Mike is dedicated and gives 100% in everything he does. It is our honor and pleasure to have him on the Loma Vista Nursery team,” Oestmann says.
Over the years, Mike has discovered numerous favorite plants. His newest favorite plant is Sunjoy Sequins® Barberry form Proven Winners®.
