We at Loma Vista Nursery are not only proud of our plants, but we are also proud of our operations and the people who work here, which is why we are featuring blogs and videos about the people who make up our incredible team and how we run our nursery.

Introducing: Torrae

Torrae began as our Inventory Assistant five and a half years ago, and now she is our Inventory Manager here at Loma Vista Nursery. We have 310 acres of container plants to keep track of here at the nursery. Hide-and-seek is a super fun game but not when it comes down to tracking down plants! Torrae keeps the inventory straight. She does so by constantly communicating with all of the growers and section leaders who let her know how many of a certain variety there are and where on the nursery those plants are located. Torrae is great at her job because she enjoys plants and math, so her role is the perfect combination of the two.

Her ‘Roots’

Torrae grew up in Springfield, Missouri. When she was young, she helped her mom in the yard with plants. Her fondest memories are of planting (and eating) strawberries in a washer-tub her mom had outside. These times helped develop Torrae’s love for plants and the outdoors. Her favorite things to do are camping, going to music festivals, and being active. She says that exercise helps her feel both physically and mentally better. Her all-time favorite band is Grateful Dead. However, nothing is more important in the world to her than her three boys. She spends all of her time supporting and caring for them, especially during basketball season.

Loma Vista, More than Just Plants

What Torrae loves most about her job ties directly into her love of the outdoors. She appreciates the opportunity to work outside and inside. She thrives in the fresh air when the weather is nice, but she also appreciates that she can be inside and out of the elements as well. “My job is unique on the nursery because the majority of people here are either outside all the time or inside all the time depending on their role,” she says. “My role requires equal amounts of indoor and outdoor time because I not only have to physically count the plants on the nursery, but I also have to input it into our system.” Lately, her job has been extra exciting because we are testing out a new, mobile inventory system. With this system, Torrae is able to take a tablet into the field and update the inventory right then and there rather than having to go all the way back to the office to update it. We are sure lucky to have Torrae at Loma Vista Nursery. She is a dedicated and hard worker that knows a ton about plants.
