We’re looking forward to sweet summertime and a little lime punch. Of course, we enjoy ours in a champagne coupe. This season, we’re also drinking in the deliciousness of Proven Winners® ColorChoice® new Little Lime Punch™ panicle hydrangea as it swirls to market.
Just like its Little Lime® cousin, Little Lime Punch™ hydrangea begins its toast to the season in lime green. As it matures, colors blend from the bottom of the panicle up, mixing for a pow-wow of white, light pink and rich Hawaiian punch red. But that’s only the beginning.
As Little Lime Punch reblooms again and again throughout the summer, the four colors blend in a continuous eye-candy swirl. The hydrangea’s habit is mounded with emerald-green foliage, which plays a lovely supporting role to the shrub’s gorgeous blooms.
Compact, upright and with strong stems, Little Lime Punch sports the same petite size as Proven Winners’ Little Lime, growing to a height of 36 to 60 inches. This makes it a winner in both small landscapes and containers, where Little Lime Punch is definitely a “thriller.” It holds court perfectly in mixed borders and as foundation plantings.
Little Lime Punch blooms on new wood from early to late summer, so prune in late winter or early spring when it may need nourishment from a controlled release fertilizer. Then, check again in mid-summer and apply liquid feed if needed.
This hydrangea will do just fine in average soil within Plant Hardiness Zones 3 to 8. pH does not affect color bloom and the shrub requires only the normal amount of water you would expect. When fall arrives, snip the panicles and bring them indoors for dried flower arrangements, home décor accents and holiday decorations.
There is a lot to enjoy in this wonderful little shrub, which packs a huge summertime punch. Little Lime Punch is available to order and ship this spring – but hurry! Our current crop is selling out and is shipping to independent garden centers and landscape contractors throughout our Midwest markets. Our next crop will be ready for later summer/fall orders.
