Hardy plants are “tough” choices for landscape designs because they stand up to a variety of environmental stresses and bounce back year after year with reliable color and form. From extreme temperatures and poor soils to drought, flooding, high winds and tricky light conditions, hardy plants are garden workhorses.
Their ability to withstand environmental anxieties stems from strong internal and external coping mechanisms. These include deep root systems for drought tolerance and soil stabilization, foliage structures that minimize wind damage, and thick outer cuticles that surround the plant’s body and help it retain water.
A wholesale grower, Loma Vista Nursery’s perennial plants, trees and shrubs are grown in the Midwest for our Midwest-based clients – independent garden centers, landscape contractors and wholesale distributors. Where plants are grown matters because the hardiness of a plant is often determined by its home climate zone. For us, this covers a vast area; generally, USDA Hardiness Zones 3 to 7.
Here are a few of the hardy plants we grow at our nursery. Review Loma Vista Nursery’s plant catalog for information about others. Spring ordering is underway! For help with orders and plant-related questions, send an email to sales@lomavistanursery.com or call 1-785-229-7200.
